Meet John & Kym Selden - John and Kym Selden have been together for 32 years, married for 27, and now they are taking on a brand new adventure together: the Dancing for the Arts stage.
The Seldens are the proud parents of three children, ages 17, 21, and 23, with Chase the dog and Norm and Remy the cats rounding out the family. Professionally, they each spend their days caring for others. John is the owner and lead dentist at Inspired Dentistry of Charlotte, while Kym is a pediatrician and Medical Director at Novant Health Pediatrics Concord. She has been caring for children and families in Cabarrus County for 24 years.
Both John and Kym are also committed to giving back to their community. John supports Leahs Hopes & Dreams, Pats Place, and The Relatives, while Kym has supported Stolen Lunches and Leahs Hopes & Dreams and previously served on the Board of Trustees of Cannon School.
When it comes to dance, however, the two bring very different résumés to the partnership. Kym grew up dancing ballet, tap, and jazz before taking her talents to Duke University, where she was co captain of the Duke Dancing Devils. John, on the other hand, has no formal dance training or past dance experience. Together, they are ready to see what happens when this husband and wife team takes the floor.
Getting to know John and Kym:
If you had to give a TED Talk on something completely unrelated to your job, what would you talk about?
John: The Power of Gratitude.
Kym: Inspired by Pablo Picassos quote, The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.
Whats your favorite way to spend a rainy Saturday?
Both: Watching college football.
What was your dream job as a kid?
John: Being a dentist.
Kym: Being a ballerina.
John and Kym are paired with Glenna Wilson, owner of studio, Dance Dreams, and a dance teacher for 50 years. She has been a long-time Dancing for the Arts Pro, mentoring dancers over the past ten years.
You can support John, Kym, and Glenna by making a donation and spreading the word. Then mark your calendar for November 7, 2026, when they'll light up the stage at the Davis Theatre!
The Cabarrus Arts Council was founded in 1980 in response to the North Carolina Arts Council's plan to establish a local arts council in every county. In 1982 the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners selected the arts council to serve as its Designated County Partner, receiving and distributing Grassroots funding from the state and the state arts council.
Today the arts council programs and operates the Davis Theatre and The Galleries, conducts one of North Carolina's largest art-in-education programs for both the Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City school systems, supports arts organizations and artists through grants and workshops and serves as a catalyst and consultant for public and corporate art.
